Making Moving Home Simple with Jordan Fishwick.?

Moving home is often described as one of the most stressful things you can do after getting ill, getting married and starting a new job. However, it doesn’t have to be – it can also be straight forward enough if you follow our simple guide to moving home.

Step 1

Confirm your Moving Date

First things first, confirm a moving date that all parties agree to move. This can be the most stressful time of all, as you move out your buyers may well be moving in, so it’s good to be organised well in advance. Try and get all parties involved to agree to a provisional completion date well in advance if possible

Step 2

Book a Removal Company

Before you can head off to your new house, you need to organise a removals company. They will help you move into your new property. You are often able to compare the performance of various removals companies in your local area. Removals companies don’t just do the heavy lifting – many of them offer a packing service too. Jordan Fishwick are affiliated with local removers, so ask your local branch for contact details.

Step 3

Organising your moving boxes

When you pack, don’t just cram everything you can find in a box. That way, you’ll never find anything you need when you move in and start to unpack. Instead, try planning ahead for your move, and organise your packing. Label boxes by the room they will occupy at the new address. Make a floor plan of the new house for the removal company to follow, and everything should end up in the right place on moving day.

Step 4

Leaving your old home

You need to contact your utility suppliers to let them know that you are moving house. Your electricity, gas, water, phone and internet suppliers will need to know your moving date and where applicable, meter readings

You will also need to let your local council tax office know you are moving along with other companies such as TV Licence, Driving Licence and your GP.

The simplest way to make sure you’ve remember to let everyone know,  is to contact Royal Mail and apply for a redirection service, and all post will be forwarded to your new address, so you know who you need to inform as they write to you.

Moving in to your new home

Don’t try to do everything at once. You don’t need to unpack all of your non essential items on the first day. Instead, try to create occupiable areas within the new house in the first few hours. Your removals company can help you by putting all the boxes in the rooms you have labelled them with. From here, unpack when you are able. Moving house is a big deal – so don’t feel like you’re the only person to have taken a while to get fully unpacked.
